Chuck's Blog

Fairbanks, Alaska

It all started with a posting on Craigslist Anchorage that said I'd do X amount of hours of web-development if someone would buy my plan ticket.... then a wonderful business couple took the bate, bought both mine & Alli's tickets, and we got to visit one of the most beautiful places on the planet.  We crossed the river that kept Christopher McCandless (Into The Wild) from coming back to civilization, saw Caribou, Moose, Bear (from afar) Mr McKinley, and my awesome cousins (Tom & Amy Temple... along with their 4 amazing kids Cinnamon, Ruger, Sage, & Sapphiron)!

Weather in Fairbanks was anything but nice. It rained so much that Tom & Amy almost had to evacuate the house we were staying at. Flood waters were only 2 feet short of entering the house. But we did travel to Denali Natl Forrest, and that was 1 of only a few days of amazing weather. We learned that seeing Mnt. McKinley is a real treat that some localers haven't enjoyed; its soo big (being the largest mountain in North America) that it has it's own weather system, and is only visible from way inside the park - and even then only 33% of the time.  One of God's little blessings to us!

Spending 12 days with four little munchkins all below 7 was an experience... I learned that it's both hard work - but with creativity, it can be done (I guess I knew it could, but sometimes seeing is believing).  Amy and Tom are such engenuitive parents, and goes way out of her way to educate and enhance all of their experiences. They'll be so well prepared by the time they leave, I'm sure they'll think College is a joke!

The trip especially encouraged my rthinking about both my business and personal life. I started better organizing my project for 180byDesign with a new online project manager. I also learned from cousin Amy abou tthe possibility that I have Adult A.D.D., which I've confirmed to be true through research.  This is a powerful realization, giving me the ability to combat the negative effects (which I've kind of been doing for a while) and play to the advantages: Many amazing people throughout history had Adult ADD, and coffee makes for a great natural medication.

My next trip will be to camp at Denali Natl Park, and get to know the Temple kids better, along with Tom & Amy, whom I love and respect soo much!

Man, that is some awesome scenery. Shan and I were supposed to be there for our honeymoon, until the mono took over. Denali National Park looks amazing!
