Jennifer & San Francisco

I had so much fun when Jen came this May, I don't even know where to begin.

First I should explain how awesome and unique Jen is. She's beautiful, to begin with. She's super smart. Fiesty. Sometimes moody. Energetic. Overly social (if that's possible) and an extravert to the extreme. And refreshingly honest about everything.  I'd say (and many would agree who have met her) that she's the most interesting person you'll meet on any given day. Sometimes, as I travelled with her, I wondered if all the people we encountered would write about her in their journal that day. So I decided I would too.

There are thousands of things to do in Pasadena and LA. But Jennifer wanted mostly to experience people in LA. She speaks with every soal she meets. We went to two screenings while here (free preview of an in-production movie), and while in line for one of them, Jen got talked to like 10 people about Tennessee, farming, sustainable life, and the revolution. She continued the revolution pushing during our 30 minutes sitting in the theater before the movie, and started reading out load (extra loud) excerts from a book she's reading ("Endgame - the end of civilization") and continued with a captive audience for 25 minutes. I was sitting in the seat ahead of her, and closed my eyes and smiled.

She also eats food off the ground, from left-over plates in restaurants, and from trees anywhere she can get them. Wasting food, she sas, is almost a sin. So is putting politicians and movie stars on a pedistal, when post-men, janitors, and street sweepers are the ones who make our country work. So she gets their autographs; everywhere she goes. One postman looked twice at her and kept walking until Jen convinced him she was serious. But to see his, and all their smiles after signing was worth Jen's entire visit.

We decided that her LA visit would be a tour of our lives more than a tour of LA. This worked great in her mind, since LA's pop-culture scene would not interest her at all. She was very interested, though, in all the urban farms around. We visited quite a few, and she volunteered at a large farm in Ojai for 2 nights.  We were both intreguied especially by a Path-to-Freedom - a small house near us that has 1/2 acre of a 'high output' farm surrounding a normal suburbian house. They were so busy that they couldn't even give us a tour, and sold their veggies and fruit to upscale restaurants in Pasadena.

Later we booked it to San-Fran. We drove up the CA-1, and stayed in hostels for our entire visit. Everytime I left Jen for 10 minutes, I'd come back finding her hugging and getting contact numbers from random people who want to know more about the revolution. The revolution (If your wondering) is about people getting back to the roots of local farming and markets. It's also about little guys getting deserved credit and big guys some needed humility. It's also about love.!  Sound familiar? If you want to know what the modern-day hippie looks like, check out my pictures page and look for Jennny! Some think she was born 40 years too late, but I think she'll do more damage now, and I'm so proud that she's my sis.

Thanks so much, Jen for coming to visit. Best 3 weeks of this month! (LOL)
