Traveling - March 2005

We have been able to do some more traveling around Ghana. YWEA (Youth World Evangelism Action) has made two recent trips here to Ghana. They will be taking our building project in Winneba on as their 2006 project! Chuck and I went with them to Kumasi, a large city in Ghana located about 4-5 hours North of Accra. We had a special youth service there. The little bit we got to see of Kumasi, we really liked! Hopefully we will be traveling up there again soon. The Church of God has their largest churches in Ghana at Kumasi. We have also made several trips to Cape Coast. It is an absolutely beautiful city located right on the ocean. It is a very historical area, with a long history of trade with the Dutch, Portuguese and British. We visited the two largest restored trading forts and castles: Elmina Castle and Cape Coast Castle. Elmina Castle was built in 1482! It is quite sobering to walk through the trading castles and imagine the millions of African slaves who made the journey through the same castles. We have also continued to make several trips to Winneba, the site PATC will be moving to for the 2005-2006 school year. It is quite exciting to see the buildings begin to take shape. The administration building is nearly finished. It will eventually be a 3-story building, but for now they are only completing the first floor. The chapel is also coming along well, and they are working on the foundation for a large male dorm. The foundation takes the longest, as they are digging it out completely by hand.
